A standout at the University of Oklahoma, he played a pivotal role in securing the 1985 NCAA National Championship. Casillas earned the prestigious Lombardi Award in 1985 and was honored as the UPI Lineman of the Year that same year. He contributed to the Dallas Cowboys' back-to-back Super Bowl victories in XXVII and XXVIII against the Buffalo Bills. In 2004, he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. Early Years Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on October 26, 1963, Casillas attended Tulsa East Central High School, where he excelled as an All-State player. His college football career began with challenges, including an ankle injury during his redshirt freshman year that sidelined him for an entire season. After a slow start, he transitioned to nose guard in 1984, becoming a starter and receiving consensus All-American and first-team All-Conference honors. A wide receiver and kick returner, he came to prominence playing college football for the University of Notre Dame, where he was Consensus All-American (1990) and The Walter Camp Award winner (1990) before moving on to both the Canadian Football League (CFL) from 1991–92 and the National Football League (NFL) for The Oakland Raiders, Carolina Panthers and Dallas Cowboys from 1993-2002. Ismail recorded two 1,000-yard receiving seasons in the NFL and was a CFL All-Star in 1991, Frank Gibson Award Winner, as well as the Most Valuable Player of the 79th Grey Cup. In 2004, College Football News named Ismail the No. 75 player on its list of the Top 100 Greatest College Football Players of All-Time. He was also selected by Sports Illustrated to the 85-man roster of its all-20th Century college football team. Hehas been featured twice on the cover of Sports Illustrated.
